ABOUT US

New Life Horizon Initiative (NELHIN) is a refugee-led organization based in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Isingiro District, Uganda. Established in January 2020, we are committed to empowering refugees and host communities through education, livelihoods, and social innovation.

In partnership with ILO PROSPECTS, NELHIN is implementing the i-UPSHIFT program – a human-centered design methodology that equips youth with entrepreneurial, social innovation and problem-solving skills. This initiative, jointly supported by ILO and UNICEF, provides young people with the tools and mentorship needed to develop sustainable solutions to community challenges, such as unemployment, waste management and environmental conservation.

As part of this effort, i-UPSHIFT has already reached 1,200 refugee and host community youth, generating over 240 social innovations. Among them, 50 outstanding innovations received USD 5,000 in seed funding to scale their prototypes into viable social businesses.

To support this impactful program, NELHIN is looking for a dedicated i-Upshift Trainer-Mentor to lead mobilization, training and mentorship activities, fostering a new generation of innovative youth leaders.
