We are a dedicated team committed to making a difference in our community. Established in Nakivale settlement, New Life Horizon Initiative (NELHIN) strives to empower refugees and host communities to acquire skills and competencies required to raise productivity, income generation, and improve livelihoods. With a focus on Entrepreneurship & Art Incubation, Integration & Social Cohesion, Women Empowerment & Childcare and Wellness & Mental Health programs, we work tirelessly to improve the self-reliance and resilience of communities. Our passionate volunteers and supporters enable us to create lasting change, and we invite you to join us on this journey.

HISTORY

The history of New Life Horizon Initiative in the Nakivale refugee settlement began in 2019, when a group of dedicated volunteers identified the urgent need for support services in the community. Recognizing the struggles faced by refugees in accessing healthcare, education, and employment opportunities, we officially launched our organization in early January 2020. With initial funding from local donors and grants, the organization has focused on tailored training programs in areas such as financial skills, entrepreneurship, computer basics skills and resource management.

Over the years, we have collaborated with various CBO, NGOs and community leaders to expand our services and empower refugees, fostering resilience and self-sufficiency within the settlement. Through community-driven initiatives and partnerships, we strive to create sustainable opportunities that foster resilience and self-sufficiency for all.

IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

To achieve its objectives, NELHIN considers a multi-faceted approach to implementing its programs:

  • groups to strengthen social ties by creating a supportive ecosystem encouraging youth and women to launch and grow their businesses.
  • Promote entrepreneurship by providing training, resources, and access to funding for youth, women and marginalized communities, enabling them to start small businesses while also offering mentorship and coaching from successful entrepreneurs.
  • Implement mental health initiatives that focus on awareness, support, and accessible services to build emotional resilience through workshops and counseling services to address stress and promote well-being, ensuring women feel empowered and capable of overcoming challenges.
  • Create partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders to create a network of resources and support, enhancing community resilience and fostering an environment where women can thrive and amplify impact across all areas of focus.
