What We do ?

We Build Futures, One Skill at a Time

NELHIN empowers refugees and host communities by providing skills, training, and support-helping individuals rebuild their lives and become leaders and contributors, transforming displacement into a foundation for resilience and growth.

1. Livelihood & Resilience

We provide innovative training programs, mentorship, and community engagement initiatives. NELHIN seeks to create a supportive environment where individuals can unlock their full potential, gain confidence, and become active contributors to their communities. Through this approach, we aim to inspire the next generation of leaders, promoting economic independence, social empowerment, and sustainable development.

English Language

Designed to unlock doors of success by providing equitable opportunities to young refugees so that they can integrate into the host county by breaking language barriers.

Digital literacy

Our organization offers digital literacy training that equips individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to use computers competently, securely, and efficiently. Our goal is to build the technological foundations for youth as they look towards the future, empowering them for active participation and learning within society.

VSLA groups

We empower vulnerable individuals, particularly women, through enhanced financial inclusion and collective economic development. The aim is to provide members with a secure and accessible platform for saving small amounts of money regularly, thereby building a personal financial cushion

Entrepreneurship

We build marginalized youth’s capacity for social innovation; We train adults in practical business, financial and soft skills to raise household income and market participation; We promote joint household economic planning to advance women’s economic empowerment, reduce gender based violence, and include low literacy people.

2. Environment & Energy

Our campaign addresses the serious environmental damage caused by single-use plastics, which contribute significantly to landfill waste and long-term soil and water pollution. We advocate for tree planting and the use of economic stoves, as trees play a crucial role in fighting climate change, preserving biodiversity, and improving the beauty of our communities.

Environment Actions

Our campaign is rooted in a profound concern for the environmental devastation caused by single-use plastics. These disposable items, used fleetingly and discarded carelessly, contribute immensely to landfill burden and underground waste, polluting our soil and water for centuries.

Energy saving

we actively encourage and support the vital initiative of planting, growing trees and promote the use economic stove. Trees are the lungs of our planet, essential for combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and enhancing the natural beauty of our communities.

3. Health and Nutrition

Mental Health & Psychosocial support

At NELHIN, we provide well-organized psychosocial support including counselling services and mental health education to orphans and separated children, both in schools and out of school together with their caregivers. In addition, we promote sports engagements because we understand their significant positive impact in improving educational attainment, development of important skills, overall well-being, and bettering prospects of youth. By engaging youth in sports, we contribute to accelerating global development and peace efforts.

4. Women empowerment & Child care

our interventions promote gender equality and child protection in refugee settings by empowering women economically, socially, and politically; ensuring access to safe, quality childcare and education; strengthening families’ capacity to provide nurturing care; and addressing gender-based violence and harmful practices to create a protective, equitable environment for all.

Women empowerment

Activities include vocational and business skills training, forming women-led savings groups, providing cash grants and market access, establishing safe spaces and peer support networks, offering legal aid and GBV response services, promoting women's leadership in camp governance, and delivering gender-sensitive health, nutrition, and childcare support.

Childcare

Activities include establishing safe, supervised child‑friendly spaces; providing early childhood care and education; training caregivers on positive parenting and child protection; identifying and referring at‑risk children; offering psychosocial first aid; and strengthening community‑based child protection systems and referral pathways.

Theory of change

NELHIN’s approach is built on the idea that lasting change requires coordinated efforts across four key areas. The organization works to break the cycle of poverty for refugees, host populations, and disadvantaged youth by advancing economic opportunity, environmental restoration, health access, and women’s empowerment at the same time. This integrated strategy creates a multiplier effect: new skills open doors to employment, community-led conservation strengthens local ecosystems, and improved health and protection services increase safety and wellness. These combined results strengthen both personal capacity and community endurance, leading to fairer, more resilient, and self-sustaining societies where everyone has the opportunity to prosper.
